The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Sky is a more refined version of the original luxury model. It’s a large watch featuring an exotic three-dimensional display for time and astronomical indication.
While this American jeweler is best known for its gem-set, less technically demanding multi-time zone watches, the “Astronomia Sky” is a mechanically intricate timepiece, crafted by Ateliers7h38, a workshop founded by Luca Soprana and Christophe Naudin, specializing in complicated watches. Almost all visible components on the Astronomia Sky dial are in motion, rotating at speeds ranging from one revolution per minute to one revolution per year.
The bright blue titanium dial at the bottom rotates once a year, roughly indicating sidereal time—the time it takes for the Earth to orbit the Sun.

Above the blue dial is a gilded oval pattern encircling constellations and stars, showing the area of ​​the sky visible in the Northern Hemisphere at that time. The blue dial features a perpetual calendar month indicator along its edge.
The central globe, crafted from titanium with a lacquered finish, also functions as a day/night indicator. Four arms extend from the central axis, each supporting a different component of the mechanical movement; the central axis rotates once every 20 minutes around the dial, driving the entire mechanism.
The hours and minutes are displayed on a subdial mounted on the third arm, which also incorporates a differential system. This ensures that even with the central axis rotating once every 20 minutes, the subdial remains vertically aligned relative to the dial.
Opposite the time display is a three-axis tourbillon, with two frames rotating every 60 seconds and 5 minutes respectively; the final axis, the central axis, rotates once every 20 minutes.
Another arm houses an “orbiting seconds hand,” essentially a wheel-shaped seconds hand resembling a satellite. The other end of this arm is connected to a 1-carat orange sapphire, which also rotates once per second.

Due to its large dial size—47mm in diameter and 25mm thick—this watch is quite bulky, yet it offers a panoramic view of the movement. The rose gold case acts as a frame, housing a large sapphire crystal, allowing for a view of the movement from every angle.
The case back features two pull-out levers for winding and adjusting the dial. When fully wound, the watch has a 60-hour lifespan.
